Nova Scotia activities

Here is a view from the Blomidon Look Off over the Minas Basin - lovely red earth.

After we stopped we went to the Blomidon Provincial park where Wouter fought with the Edam cheese he brought from Amsterdam - for lunch.

Later we went to Grayce and George's for supper - Grayce was Muriel's wonderful babysitter for several years and is a dear friend.

Day 3 in Nova Scotia
The weather is not great today so we are going to Halifax so that Zu can see the shops - it was a bit of a damp squib actually as Zu is used to shopping in Europe and Halifax is not the place for haute couture!! Below is a picture of "the guys"in Historic Properties down at the Harbour.

The weather continued to be very foggy and wet so we decided to return to our cottage by the sea as Zu was going to cook tonight - see the next two piccies - Zu in the kitchen and Wouter relaxing - he poor guy had the task of driving back in fog and rain!!

Goodbye Montreal Hello Fredericton and Digby Ferry and Nova Scotia shores

This trip to Fredericton was the longest - almost 1,000 km and I drove most of it - Wouter did some driving but we were all tired by the time we got to the Ramada Hotel. Montreal road signage was chaotic so we missed our turn and did a little bit of a road detour - nice but almost added to the time.

Here we are after eating our picnic!

The picture on the right is us Wouter and I sitting on the Princess of Acadia Ferry from Saint John to Digby. It is a 3 hour ride from the time you drive on until the time you drive off!

We then drove to Harbourville from Digby about 1.5 hours. We stopped off for groceries first in Berwick and then drove over the escarpment to Harbourville on the Bay of Fundy which has the highest tides in the world - up to 11kms high! Harbourville is a very small working fishing port - not picturesque in the pretty sense but interesting as you will see.

This is the "beach"area outside our house - the house is below -

Here is a shot of the boats on the dry ground with the tide out - then with the tide up.

This is the shot with the boats in the water.

These boats to the left are working fishing boats - mostly lobster I think!

The first evening was so clear and the sunset lovely - this boat is right in front of our beach house apartment.

We're off on our road trip to Nova Scotia - first Montreal

We set off on Sunday to Montreal via the Canadian route and did fine until we got there and found that they were almost demolishing the whole city and there were dug up roads and re-routing everywhere!! Most confusing. Our hotel was interesting!! A very old one with a sex shop downstairs, however we were in the newer part - see the photo. It was at St.Catherine and Rue Saint Laurent.

We had booked dinner at Chez Creperie Suzette on Rue Saint Paul in Old Montreal - great place but funnily no liquor outside. We sat outside anyway and had crepes - Wouter and I had shrimp Crepe with Lobster sauce - yum and non-alcoholic cider. Our waiter Fred was very nice and friendly - here are a couple of photos at the restaurant.

Here is waiter Fred to the right with Zu. The next picture is of the Rue Saint Paul packed with people and the odd busker plying their trade.

The boys have arrived!

Wouter and Zu have arrived and we spent the first 3 days catching up, enjoying the deck and going to our local mall - Limeridge as the weather wasn't great and Zu loves to shop!

The evening of the first day it managed to stop raining and we went down to our waterfront park where we had coffee and Zu took this impressive picture of the Sunset.

The next set of pictures are from our trip (in the rain!)to Toronto.

The above is Muriel and Wouter and Zu is the next picture in front of the CN Tower which we couldn't get into because there was a 75 minute wait! Then we had a lovely lunch with Natalie Quick and Kevin Bowles - sorry no picture!

My Dutch Treats Arrive

It is July 22nd 2010 and my next adventure begins! Wouter and Zu arrived from Amsterdam today for their 2 weeks in Canada - yippee!! It is great to have them here as they have looked after me so many times in Amsterdam. We are planning on a road trip to Nova Scotia passing through Montreal and Fredericton and taking the St.John to Digby Ferry before we arrive at Harbourville on the Bay of Fundy - see piccie below.

It will take us 2 days to drive there and 2 days to return. We will be returning via Quebec City and Ottawa on Tuesday August 3rd.
